Today's chapel was built in 1882 "to worship the triune God and in honor of the Blessed Virgin and Mother Mary.
This Marienkapelle stood earlier and until the beginning of the 19th century outside the city walls "an der Steigen", where the path to Epfenbach begins to climb. Already in the late Middle Ages it was highly regarded as a special place of grace. As a pilgrimage chapel, it was even the seat of the Rosary Brotherhood, from which more than 1400 pilgrims came here.
