Experience Route 8: Green Spelt Cycle Path

With this solid one-day route, we send cyclists on the trail of green spelt, the power grain that has been traditionally harvested by hand in the Tauber Valley and the Odenwald for a long time and dried over a beech wood fire in the customary green spelt dryers according to old-fashioned methods. Nowadays, the harvesting and drying process mostly takes place mechanically, but during various festivals, the tradition is still commemorated and the ancestral production methods are practiced.
Along the way, you will repeatedly notice the traditional green spelt dryers by the roadside. In this context, Altheim even invites you to visit the local green spelt museum. If you want to split the route over two days, accommodation options are available in Walldürn or Hardheim. By the way, the Limes also runs near Walldürn, which you can take a closer look at on the Limes educational trail north of the town.

Directions
The start and end point of the route is the green spelt town of Boxberg. From here, the route passes laterally over Kailberg to Eubigheim, where you can relax a bit for the next few kilometres in the river valley of the Eubigheimer Bach. At Altheim, the next climb awaits. Once you have mastered this, you can look forward to a nice, long descent down to Hardheim. From here, you follow the Mühlenradweg southwards before the next hill section awaits shortly after Erfeld. At Unterschüpf, the path finally leads back into the valley of the Umpfer and from there back to Boxberg.
