International Museum Day at the Heinrich Art Collection

The collection, which comprises around 400 works by Berlin artists, focuses on the 1970s to 1990s - a period characterised by political tension, cultural diversity and profound social upheaval. Art from East and West meet here as equals: sometimes rich in contrast, sometimes surprisingly harmonious, but always as a living testimony to German history. Many visitors will remember the time of the Wall, the Cold War and the moving images of the opening of the border in 1989 - all of which are reflected in this special collection.

It is housed in a historic barn building, which the collector and building contractor Manfred Heinrich transformed into a museum with great attention to detail. In 2012, he donated the collection and building to his home town of Maulbronn. The museum has been open on Sundays since 2014 - but International Museum Day now offers the first opportunity to experience the art collection all day and engage in dialogue with us.

Programme on 17 May 2026

• From 10 a.m.: Opportunities for dialogue with Regina M. Fischer, art historian and member of the Board of Trustees
• From around 1 pm: Collector Manfred Heinrich will be available to answer questions and tell stories about his collection in person
• 2 p.m.: Free guided tour of the collection with Dr Elke Pastré, art historian
• All day: The cafeteria invites you to enjoy freshly brewed, fair-trade coffee and homemade cake

The Heinrich Art Collection is looking forward to welcoming visitors of all ages - whether they are art enthusiasts, history buffs or simply curious. International Museum Day offers the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in Berlin's cultural diversity and experience a piece of contemporary German history at the same time.
