LT 14 Southern Chapel Circular Hiking Route

Chapel hiking trail with moderate to easy inclines on asphalt and gravel paths.

After starting in the center of Unterwittighausen, you walk eastwards along Büttharder Straße, then just before the railway line, you cross the Wittigbach to the right. Over another bridge you cross another stream again before passing under the railway tracks through a small tunnel. A little further straight ahead, before you turn right onto the field path at a farm. Then it goes uphill towards Bergholz. Upon entering the forest, you can already see the crosses of the Way of the Cross, leading you to the forest chapel (a small detour at the end of the Way of the Cross).

You continue hiking on a forest path and then on asphalted gravel paths to the village of Vilchband. From the field, you can already see the church tower spire. Through Vilchband, past the baroque parish church and the two chapels, the path leads you to the east-side connecting road to Bütthard. On farm roads, it returns to the Bergholz forest, where a bench gives you the chance to rest. After passing through the forest, it goes down into the valley to the railway underpass. After crossing district road 2807 and the Insingerbach, turn right onto a village street and follow this straight ahead. At the end of the village, the path changes to a natural ground surface. Shortly before the mill, the path gently leads you to the left up the slope and straight ahead. When your path meets another, turn left and climb the hill. On the paved path, turn left and follow it straight back into the village. You will pass two wayside shrines. Back in the village, turn right onto a narrow footpath that leads you under the railway tracks. On the other side, it goes a little further through Unterwittighausen back to the starting point in the middle of Unterwittighausen.
