Directions
In Reicholzheim you can visit the Baden-Franconian wine cooperative (TaubertalVinothek) and a few kilometers further you should also plan a stop. You have reached the Bronnbach Monastery, a former Cistercian abbey founded in 1151. The monastery, now owned by the Main-Tauber district, combines Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles and with its church, cloister, Joseph Hall, and Bernhard Hall is a worthwhile destination at any time of year. Guided tours are offered from April to October, otherwise by appointment.
Further south, the Gamburg towers over the Tauber valley. Noteworthy is its culturally and historically unique palas hall in Europe, including the oldest secular wall paintings north of the Alps, as well as its exceptional baroque castle park. The Mediterranean-like castle courtyard invites you to linger. Further upstream in Niklashausen we suggest visiting the local history museum; here you will find information about the "Pfeiferhannes," once condemned as a heretic in the Peasants' War and burned at the Schottenanger in Würzburg.
Only a few kilometers remain; you pass by Werbach and through Hochhausen, then you reach the district town of the Main-Tauber district, Tauberbischofsheim, featuring an interesting mix of vibrant Romanticism and Franconian atmosphere, known worldwide as a fencing stronghold. The Olympic training center is rightly considered the German medal factory and enjoys a high reputation even beyond national borders. Surrounded by charming landscape, the holiday town lies on one of Germany's most beautiful cycling routes and numerous designated bike and hiking trails. From the half-timbered old town, the landmark, the tower at the Kurmainz Castle, rises. Special attention is also deserved by the well-stocked Tauber-Franconian Landscape Museum, the only neo-Gothic town hall in all of Baden-Württemberg, the St. Martin's parish church, as well as numerous other lovely buildings, alleys, and monuments. A comprehensive sports and leisure program provides entertainment. The most pleasant way to experience Tauber-Franconian culture is certainly to enjoy the regional specialties, especially with a fresh beer from the local Distelhäuser Brewery, a fine drop from the municipal Edelberg vineyard, and regional dishes. Continuing your journey, in the Tauberbischofsheim districts, Dittigheim has a baroque church built by Balthasar Neumann in 1748, and in Distelhausen the baroque church built under Balthasar Neumann’s supervision as well as the late Gothic St. Wolfgang chapel can be visited. The Distelhäuser Brewery with the event center "Alte Füllerei" is also worth mentioning.
And so you are already on your way to the endpoint of this stage, to Lauda-Königshofen. This completes the outer ring of the Bike-Achter and ends at its starting point.
