Next, you continue to Freudenberg. In Freudenberg, we recommend visiting the half-timbered Renaissance-style town hall and the cemetery chapel with frescoes. In the 50 ha large Seepark, there is the fishing and surfing lake (18 ha) directly next to the youth and camping site, as well as the spring-fed bathing lake (2.2 ha). Close by is the Rauch Zoo with over 80 animals (free). Every two years, castle plays take place at Freudenberg Castle. More information can be obtained from the Tourism & Culture Office of the city of Freudenberg.
Afterwards, you cross the Main to Kirschfurt and continue to Collenberg with its Kollenburg. Looking back, you can once again see the castle ruins in Freudenberg. From Collenberg, the route continues over Dorfprozelten to Stadtprozelten, where the Henneburg greets from afar. Hike up and enjoy the magnificent view of the Main valley.
You stay on the right bank of the Main and cycle via Faulbach to Hasloch. There, you cross the old railway bridge to Bestenheid and arrive at the two-river town of Wertheim. Alternatively, you can cycle completely on the right side of the Main via Faulbach, Hasloch, and Kreuzwertheim to Wertheim. The Main is your constant companion, and you first reach the confluence of the Tauber into the Main. In Wertheim itself, medieval culture is present everywhere. The castle, the historic old town at its foot, the “House of the Four Crowned,” the collegiate church as the burial place of the counts of Wertheim and the Löwenstein-Wertheim counts’ house, the Marienkapelle, the Spitze Turm, the Kittstein Gate and the Angel’s Fountain, the County Museum in the old town hall, and the Glass Museum in Mühlenstraße offer interesting insights into the history of the northernmost town of the Main-Tauber district and the Tauber valley.
The Nibelungenstraße, from the Rhine through the Odenwald to the Main, runs through Wertheim. Here ends the 3rd stage.
