An architectural masterpiece of early Gothic architecture in Germany and one of the most important churches in southern Germany, the cloister and church can be visited.

The Knights' Collegiate Church of St. Peter and the monastery are located in the Bad Wimpfen district in the valley, a former Roman town with a fort. This impressive ensemble rises up directly on the Neckar.

Early Gothic collegiate church of St. Peter

The Knights' Collegiate Church of St. Peter is considered a masterpiece of early Gothic architecture throughout Germany and one of the most important churches in southern Germany. The origins of the church are largely unknown. It was probably built on the site of the temple or administrative seat. The current building dates back to the 10th century (Romanesque westwork) and the 13th century (Gothic nave and choir).

The High Gothic cloister is impressive. It is considered one of the most beautiful and best preserved in the whole country.

Guided tours & visits

The High Gothic cloister is usually open for tours from Easter to October:

Tuesday to Friday from 3 to 5 p.m.Sundays and public holidays from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Ritterstiftskirche is usually open from 8 am to 5 pm and can be visited. Public guided tours of the church are also offered regularly. Guided tours with individual appointments from €80 per group.

The events in the "Classical Music in the Cloisters" series are a special experience.

Bad Wimpfen Abbey in the valley

The Ritterstiftskirche belongs to the former Benedictine monastery of Bad Wimpfen in the valley, which is now a Maltese spiritual training center. Overnight stays are possible in the monastery and courses and packages are regularly offered.
