In Heilbronn, the oldest wine town in Württemberg, and in HeilbronnerLand, they play the leading role - the many vines that characterize the landscape.

Welcome to the wine region Heilbronn & HeilbronnerLand

Heilbronn is not only the wine-capital of Württemberg, but also an important center of German viticulture. The State Training and Research Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing is located in Weinsberg. It trains outstanding young vintners every year and its successful new wine varieties, such as Dornfelder, Cabernet Cubin, Cabernet Dorio and Cabernet Dorsa, are prized worldwide.

HeilbronnerLand - a wine region with a long history

"Württemberger Unterland", in which Heilbronn is embedded, has a long and significant history in viticulture.

During the Second World War, viticulture made a significant contribution to the revival of the completely destroyed city of Heilbronn. Local families exchanged bottles of Silvaner or Trollinger wine from their own vineyards for building materials.

At the same time, the mayor at the time, Paul Meyle, defended the valuable vineyards on the Stiftsberg and Wartberg against factory owners who wanted to build their villas there - with a view of the far-reaching Württemberg lowlands.

These vineyards played a decisive role in the conflict between building development in the Heilbronn area and the preservation of vineyards.

Fascinating steep slopes and sun terraces
The wine region covers a total area of 5,180 hectares for red wine varieties and an additional 2,500 hectares for white wine varieties.
There are impressive terraced vineyards along the Neckar, which are characterized by shell limestone on the river banks and Keuper-formations on the slopes of the valleys.
The continental climate with mild annual temperatures and the sheltered location of the Neckartal create ideal conditions for viticulture.
The mineral-rich soils are responsible for the wide range of red wine varieties that make the region famous.

Discover the wine diversity of HeilbronnerLand
The wine region HeilbronnerLand is known far beyond its borders for its red wines, typical grape varieties such as Lemberger and Trollinger as well as Schwarzriesling and Samtrot are at home here. Rarities such as Muskat-Trollinger, Traminer and Muskateller also enrich the range.
The town of Heilbronn has the largest vineyard area of any large district town in Germany, while Brackenheim stands out as the largest wine-growing community in Württemberg and the largest red wine community in Germany. The State School of Viticulture in Weinsberg is the oldest of its kind in Germany and forms the heart of the Württemberg Winegrowers' Association with 16,500 members.
The well-known wine towns include Brackenheim and Heilbronn with their renowned vineyards such as Stahlbühl, Stiftsberg and Wartberg, as well as a large number of other wine-growing communities with their unique individual vineyards, which make the HeilbronnerLand a true paradise for wine lovers.

A rendezvous with the winegrowers of HeilbronnerLand
Throughout the year, the many winegrowers in HeilbronnerLand offer a wide variety of wine experiences. You can get to know them personally and gain insights into the world of wine during cellar and winery tours, and you can also experience the love and passion of the local winegrowers during wine tastings.
Whether by tractor or on foot, tour guides provide a warm insight into local viticulture and the special features of the region along the way. In any case, great views and lively stories are included.
Wine can be enjoyed in combination with regional specialties in one of the numerous taverns; a Lemberger goes perfectly with roast onion with spaetzle.

HeilbronnerLand - festivals, vacations and enjoyment

Various wine festivals take place in spring, summer and fall, inviting you to socialize, experience and relax. One of these wine festivals is the famous Heilbronn Wine Village in September, during which the region's wineries and cooperatives proudly present their fine wines.
The Württemberg Wine Route and the Castle Road run through HeilbronnerLand and the additional wide range of diverse wine, hiking and cycling trails make a vacation in this wine region varied and interesting.
